Irvington
Irvington is both a neighborhood and historical district. The historical district is a 545-acre section that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The neighborhood of Irvington is an up and coming area on the East side of Indianapolis, about 5 miles from downtown and runs along Washington Street, making it a short hop into Indy and quick drive to I-465 & I-70. Irvington is a family-friendly neighborhood and offers many walkable store, coffee shops and restaurants. Throughout the year, several festivals are held in the community that allow friends and neighbors to come together and learn more about Irvington.
For over 10 years, the Irvington Historical Society has hosted an ice cream social at the Bona Thompson Memorial Library. Free ice cream, displayed art, and music attract neighbors to the event so they can learn more about the history of Irvington and tour the library.
The Irvington Garden Club presents annual events to show local gardens, homes, and art. The Irvington Home Tour also allows the public to tour several historic homes.
Typical homes in the area are built anywhere from the early 1900′s to the 1960′s. There is much character to be found in Irvington and is a great option for families, young professionals and empty nesters alike.
